USCIS Update Identifies Applicants Subject to Public Charge Ground of Inadmissibility
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has integrated important information into Chapter 3, Applicability, of its Policy Manual, regarding public charge grounds of inadmissibility. This update aims to make it easier to identify whether a public ground of inadmissibility applies in an adjustment of status cases.
USCIS implemented this update with the intention of assisting applicants in accurately responding to questions related to the public charge ground of inadmissibility on Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Therefore, when applicants answer questions on the form, it is recommended to review the Policy Manual section alongside the questions on Form I-485. The update should make it easier for USCIS officers to assess adjustment of status applications and, if applicable, determine public charge inadmissibility.
